What we may call a Staffordshire Bull Terrier here in the UK, they may well call a Pit Bull in the US.
It’s fascinating to read how different Pit Bull identifications are in this USA and UK survey (thank you Julie Hecht and Mia Cobb).
It is also very sad that the law judges a dog by breed, not deed – particularly when the only way in the UK to determine the breed is nothing to do with genetics but purely by measurements – see here.
Any dog that is bull type and has these measurements is illegal in the UK and be seized for what he looks like alone. Many Staffies could probably fall into this category.
Here is the story of a one of the many gentle Staffies I have been to that would certainly be classed as Pit Bull in the US.
